The closing of the sale of Memorial Medical Plaza will happen before the Calhoun County Commissioners’ Court meeting in April, Attorney Anne Marie Odefey said last Thursday.

For this reason Odefey had commissioners’ court on Thursday authorize County Judge Michael Pfeifer to sign the closing documents for the sale of MMP before the next commissioners’ court meeting.

The sales agreement was amended Thursday. The amendment stipulates that at closing, the seller agrees to deposit with the escrow agent $100,000 out of the seller’s (Calhoun County) proceeds to be held in escrow for payment of expenses incurred by the buyer (Omni Group Ltd.) in connection with environmental remediation to be conducted on the property.

Pct. 1 Commissioner Roger Galvan said that since Richard Carney of Omni Group set the sale price, MMP has cost the county $4,000 a day to maintain the mall. “We will be happy to sign,” he said.

Pct. 4 Commissioner Kenneth Finster said the county was very fortunate to have owned the mall when it had to move out of the courthouse for renovation. The mall became a temporary courthouse.
