Football frenzy

Football frenzy has once again bitten the local residents of Calhoun County. Texas Football founder Dave Campbell was at Bill Harvey's Red Humming Bird Photography office signing autographs on this year's copy. Why was he here? Calhoun High School was ranked in the top ten 4-A high schools, number seven to be exact.
This announcement was well received especially considering Calhoun being picked to play against Mercedes in the Texas Classic this year on August 30. Immediately after the OK was given after rumors of CHS being in the top ten, preparations began. On Wednesday, June 18, Dave Campbell himself came to Port Lavaca. In such a short time for organization the town came together for a little fiesta.
Green Iguana sold ice cold lemonade for a dollar, CHS Band Boosters set up shop selling candy, sodas and other superb snacks, US Army also was tented as a proud sponsor of Texas Football organization, parents assisted in the selling of tickets, t-shirts, flags. The Sandcrab spirit was all around Main Street. Police shut down Main Street at Virginia and at Main at Commerce so that the festivities could take place on the strip.
Around six o'clock Coach Whitaker took the stage and began the short presentation and thank you to the town. Texas Football Executive Director Adam Hochfelder also gave around of thanks and praised Calhoun and it's fans. The cheerleaders cheered, drill team danced and the football players stood confident on the upcoming season with smiles and grins.
It was evident througout the event that thetown is bursting with school pride and spirit for the imending season that isfast approaching.
