Barnard Douglas
Barnard Douglas, 82, of Victoria, and formerly of Port Lavaca, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008.
He was born March 18, 1926 in Shawnee, OK to the late Newton Edgard and Pearl Lee Upton Douglas. He graduated from high school in El Reno, OK. He served as a Merchant Marine, from 1943 to 1945 and then retired from the United States Air Force after 25 years of service. He worked for the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer, bailiff and was a member of the Sheriff’s Reserve. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Port Lavaca.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyene L. Beck Douglas; sons, Dale Douglas of San Diego, CA, B. Eldon Douglas of Ardmore, OK, and Robert Alex Douglas and his wife Kendra Mae Douglas of Victoria; daughters, Teresa Douglas of Atlanta, GA, and Lorraine Douglas of Huntingdon, TN; sisters, Dorotheia Paulk of Calumet, OK, Barbara Rasmussen of Oklahoma City, OK and Robbie Mae Summers of Elk City, OK; nine grandchildren: Melissa and Sara Van Saanen, Kaitlyn, Sierra, Kyleigh and Calvin Douglas, and Alex Zandrya, Jaxom, and Dimitri Douglas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Newton Edgard Douglas II.
A military memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 at Colonial Funeral Home with military honors provided by the Victoria Veteran’s Council. A service of remembrance held by the family will follow. Private burial services will be held at a Texas Veteran’s Cemetery at a late date.
