Wesley Underwood, 47, of Point Comfort passed away on Monday, Oct. 20. He was born Aug. 13, 1961 in Carlsbad, NM to Jeff and Faye Underwood of Point Comfort.
He moved to Point Comfort at the age of six, graduated from Calhoun High School in 1979 and attended Victoria College and University of Houston/ Victoria. He created the Collier-Sharp Football report, a website used by high school football coaches across Texas. He also edited tapes of high school games and players. He was a member of the Texas Sports Writer’s Association. He loved football and will be missed by the sports world that he reported on. He was also a historian for Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. He was an active volunteer of the Calhoun County Library serving on the board and also on the Regional Library Board.
He is survived by his parents; grandmother Gladys Miller of Malvern, Ark.; sister Sandra Underwood of West Hollywood, CA.; brother Dennis Underwood and wife, Bridgett of Malvern, Ark.; nephew Randy Underwood of Malvern, AK; Aunt Sheri and husband Adrian Parkyn and cousins of Lyman, WO; Uncle Larry and wife Joan Collier of Hot Springs, AK; many great uncles, aunts and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25 with family visitation from 5 to 7 p.m., at Point Comfort Baptist Church followed by the funeral service with Rev. John Fisher officiating the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Calhoun County Library or the donor’s choice.
