Sandies flamingos

The Sandies Basketball fundraiser flamingos will begin flocking yards soon. Contact Melissa Lester at 550-5373 or Alicia Fivecoat at 649-9400 to keep your yard from getting flocked.

Arts/crafts festival

The 37th annual Arts-Crafts-Antiques Festival by the Bay is seeking artists, handcrafters and antique dealers to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 and Sunday, Nov. 2 at the Bauer Community Center. Adopt-A-Pet

Adopt-A-Pet, 8215 Houston Highway, Victoria, will have a  male cat neuter-a-thon from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday Nov. 1, for male cats only. Male cats can be neutered and given a rabies vaccination for $20. No appointment necessary. Cats and dogs can also be micro chipped for only $15.00.

OLG bake sale

Our Lady of the Gulf Altar Society will host a bake sale after Mass on Saturday, Nov. 1 and Sunday, Nov. 2. All proceeds will benefit important work for the church.

Halloween carnival

Port O’Connor Elementary will host its Halloween carnival from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov.1. Everyone is welcome to enjoy lots of food, fun, games and a raffle. Decorated pumpkins should arrive by 4 p.m. for the pumpkin contest. Costume contest will begin at 5 p.m.


Fall bazaar

Tivoli Presbyterian Women’s Circle will host a Fall Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 at Tivoli Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. A soups and sandwich lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., eat in or take out. There will be lots of homemade food items and baked goods, and raffle. Proceeds will be used to benefit mission projects.

Diercks benefit

A benefit for the Diercks family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 at Harvey’s Tavern. Lighthouse Beach Road. Live music will be provided by the Rowdy Bunch with a silent auction and raffle. Donations accepted.

Teen Challenge

Six Mile Assembly of God Church will host Teen Challenge Choir at 10:45 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 2. Everyone is welcome to hear their testimonies. For more information, call 552-5714.

Bake sale

Fraternal Order of Eagles will have a bake sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2 at Wal-Mart. All proceeds will benefit Muscular Dystrophy. For more information, call 571-6767.

OLG fundraiser

Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic School will be selling turkey plates with all the trimmings from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2 at St. Jude Hall. Take out only. For more information or tickets, call 552-6140.

Komensky School

The 16th annual Komensky School Reunion will be held Sunday, Nov. 2 at the Moravia Dining Hall in Moravia. Registration begins at 10 a.m. for all former students, teachers, trustees, residents and their spouses. Reply to 361-596-4930 only if attending.

Heritage happenings

The Heritage Center (Senior Citizens Center) will host Bingo at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 3; Cheryl Moore at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4; crafts and Tai Chi at 9 a.m., Exercise with Susie at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5; Memorial Home Health, Thursday, Nov. 6; Tai Chi at 9 a.m., Exercise with Susie at 10 a.m., Rosary with Beverly at 10:15 a.m., Friday, Nov. 7. Lunch will be served each day at 11:30 a.m.

Seadrift Library

Friends of the Seadrift Library will meet at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3 at Commissioner Finster’s office on Dallas Street, Seadrift. The annual membership drive will be starting soon. To receive a smile box video of new or feature books, call Librarian, C.J. Garriott at 785-4241.

Band boosters meet

Calhoun High School Band Booster Club will meet at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3 in the band hall. All band and color guard students and their parents are asked to attend to discuss the Disney trip and fundraisers.

Class of 2010

Calhoun High School Class of 2010 will meet at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3 in the CHS cafeteria. Students and parents are asked to attend. Fundraisers will be discussed.

All Around 4H

The All Around 4H Club will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3 at the Ag Building. Members are asked to bring canned goods for the community project.

District No. 11

Calhoun County Drainage District No. 11 will meet at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4 at IBC Bank.

Fire Department meets

Six-Mile Volunteer Fire Department will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the First Assembly of God Church. All interested are asked to attend to discuss fundraisers and department progress.

Country Opry

The Heritage Center and Sterling Griffith will present the Country Opry at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4. Admission is $4. A turkey and dressing dinner will be served from 6 to 7 p.m. for a $6 donation. Proceeds will benefit the Senior Citizen’s Center. For more information, call 552-3350.

Story Time

Calhoun County Library will host Story Time from 11 to 11:45 a.m., Friday, Nov. 7. This week’s topic will be ‘election time’. Bring the kids for stories, songs, crafts and fun. For more information, call 552-7323, ext. 25.

Christmas Bazaar

The Point Comfort United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women will host the 54th annual Christmas Bazaar Thursday, Nov. 6 and Friday, Nov. 7. Doors open at 4 p.m. on Thursday and 8 a.m. on Friday.

Veteran’s parade

Consignment auction

Flag burning

The American Legion will have a flag burning at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 10. Flags should be delivered to Point Comfort City Hall.

Scholarship offered

Calhoun County Farm Bureau is offering a $1000 scholarship to a sophomore, junior or senior student at a Texas college, university or vocational school. Applicants must be a Farm Bureau member or dependant, be at least one-half time with a 2.0 average and have been a resident of Calhoun County for three years. Applications are available at 1601 West Austin. Deadline for submitting is Monday, Nov. 24.

Heart care

The Texas Agrilife Extension Service will sponsor a Heart Smart mail out series for those interested in learning more about cholesterol, saturated and trans fats and other factors related to heart disease. For more information, call Bethany Bowman at 552-9747.

CHS yearbooks

Calhoun High School 2008 yearbooks may be picked up during regular school hours. Extra copies are available for $65.

Eagles Thanksgiving

The Fraternal Order of Eagles is seeking donations ad volunteers to help support the free Thanksgiving Dinner to be held on Thursday, Nov. 27. Laptops for checkout

Calhoun County Community Network has laptops available for checkout. Laptops may be rented for $3 a day or $15 for a seven-day week. Testengeer has provided free dial-up Internet services for each laptop. Each laptop is equipped with Microsoft Office applications. Some restrictions apply. For more information, contact 553-4301.

Open computer labs

Calhoun County Community Network has open computer labs available to the public free of charge. Labs are open from 4 to at least 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. Open lab locations are J/R Elementary, Point Comfort and Seadrift School. Internet access and printing of documents are available. For more information, please call 552-9728 or 553-4301.
