Merline Dawdy

Services for Merline Dawdy, 85, of Whitehouse were at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008 at Lloyd James Funeral Home Chapel in Tyler with Rev. Larry Taylor officiating.

  Burial was at Whitehouse Cemetery in Whitehouse under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.

Merline Dawdy went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008 in Tyler.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Mike Dawdy, her parents and sisters.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1923 in Fisher County near McCauley to the late Harvey A. Barnes and Cora L. Faulkenberry Barnes.  She resided at Oakbrook Healthcare Center in Whitehouse for eight years.  She was in the pep squad at Morton High School and she graduated from Lubbock Business School.  She moved to Port Lavaca from Morton in 1953.  She was a charter member of the Alamo Heights Baptist Church in Port Lavaca and Indianola Baptist Church in Indianola.  Currently she was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitehouse and attended Gateway Baptist Outreach at Oakbrook Healthcare Center.  She was a member of the Port Lavaca Community Choir and the Texas Baptist Men Church Builders.  She loved music —singing, playing the piano, organ and mandolin.  She also loved children and called many adopted and she loved family reunions. 


She is survived by her children, George and Joyce Dawdy, Doris “Bill” and Walter Mathis, Danny and Terry Dawdy, Fayline and Steve Carey, Sherry and Gordon Alford; adopted children, Gwen and Mike Stone; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
