Travis students earn region seats

Members of the Travis Middle School bands competed in the Mid Coast Region Band tryouts this past Saturday in Victoria.  Of the 61 TMS students competing, 39 earned seats in the All-Region Band.

Students earning positions in the Symphonic Band: Christina Wang, 1st chair flute ; John Gee, 4th chair flute; Samantha Lin, 6th chair flute; Crystal Lu, 7th chair flute; Laura Baker, 8th chair flute; JJ Cabrera, 1st chair bassoon; Janice Chen, 3rd chair clarinet; Shelby Clayton 12th chair clarinet; Jason Wang 2nd chair alto sax; Kevin Chang, 3rd chair alto sax; Eric Herrera, 4th chair alto sax; Sarah Wynn, 4th chair trumpet; Jordan Childers, 7th chair trumpet; Kayla Sturm, 8th chair trumpet, James Hsu, 3rd chair french horn; Drew Ortiz, 5th chair trombone; Hunter Sparks, 2nd chair baritone; Carlos Carrasco, 3rd chair baritone; Julian Heysquierdo; 4th chair baritone; Rachel Grant, 3rd chair tuba; Sean Torres, 4th chair percussion; Marcus Menchaca, 6th chair percussion; Michael Boudreaux, 7th chair percussion.

Students earning positions in the Concert Band: Shannon Wang, 6th chair clarinet; Alex Gil, 7th chair clarinet; Erin Evans, 11th chair clarinet; Chase Weaver, 7th chair trumpet; Chase Piwetz, 9th chair trumpet; Spencer Dunagan, 10 chair trumpet; Brianna Salinas, 2nd chair french horn; Zachary Pilgram, 3rd chair french horn; Andri Cordova, 5th chair french horn; Thomas Tomlinson, 6th chair french horn; Ryan Rosenbrock, 2nd chair trombone; Evelyn Dio, 3rd chair trombone; Adriel Cordova, 3rd chair baritone; Victor Ta, 1st chair tuba; Courtney Smalley, 3rd chair tuba; Ryan Crawford, 4th chair tuba;

Honorable mentions go to Connor Holladay, 2nd alternate clarinet; Olivia Chavez, 2nd alternate alto sax; Taylor McGrew, 1st alternate trumpet; Briley Roberts, 2nd alternate trumpet; William Strauss, 1st alternate trombone; Chris McLead, 1st alternate baritone;


“This is an exceptional year for Travis in this individual competition,” said Doug Hamelwright, Travis band director.  “Their hard work in class and in practice outside of school has certainly paid off.  Thanks to all the students who made an effort and tried out, whether or not they earned a place in the bands.”
