An open investigation continues in the death of Chelsea Margret Currie, 24, of Port Lavaca, according to Investigator Anthony Daniel of the Victoria County Sheriff Office.

The bones of Currie, a 25-year-old woman, were found in November in the woods near Rupley Lake Road by some hunters.

She was pronounced dead by Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Henry A. Welfel.

Daniel confirmed that dental records were used to determine Currie’s identity. He said at this time it is undetermined  if there was foul play. He said more information will become available at the conclusion of the investigation.

Daniel said Currie was last seen in September. No one reported her missing, according to Daniel. He said the hunters found her bones  which were sent to the Corpus Christi Medical Examiner’s office. It is projected she was dead for three to six months, Daniel said.

Currie was a homemaker and the mother of two sons. She lived in Port Lavaca with her mother. At one time she attended  Calhoun High School.

A memorial service for Chelsey was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at Grace Funeral Chapel. There will be a private family burial at a later date.
