Seadrift School students perform at FNB

Heritage happenings

The Heritage Center (Senior Citizens Center) will host crafts and Tai Chi at 9 a.m., Exercise with Susie at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17; Healthforce Home Health, Computer from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Port Lavaca Nursing Home Bingo with Tracy at 10 a.m., Tour of Lights at dark, Thursday, Dec. 18; Tai Chi at 9 a.m., Exercise with Susie at 10 a.m., Rosary with Beverly at 10:15 a.m., Friday, Dec. 19; Lunch will be served each day at 11:30 a.m.

Democrats Club

The Calhoun County Democrats Club will meet for its annual Holiday party from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at the IBC Town Hall. Snacks or finger foods are welcome. Soft drinks and coffee will be provided. Everyone is asked to attend. All are welcome. For information, call 552-2791.


Students perform

Seadrift School students will perform at First National Bank of Seadrift. Scheduled are third grade at 9:15 a.m. and the Seadrift School band at 2:45 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17; first grade and AM Pre-K at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 18.

RC Flyers

Mid-Coast RC Flyers will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16 at First National Bank Community Room.

MMC open house

Memorial Medical Center will host its annual holiday open house throughout the week with Travis Middle School seventh and eighth grade choir at 10 a.m. and the sixth grade choir at 2:15 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17 and Point Comfort Elementary School Choir at noon, Thursday, Dec. 18. Everyone is welcome.


Agency/aging counselor

A counselor from the Golden Crescent Area Agency on Aging will be available at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the Seadrift First Baptist Church. They are also seeking volunteers for the Long Term Care Ombudsmen Program. For more information, call 578-1587.

Autistic support

Parents of Autistic Children Support Group will meet at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the Calhoun County Library.

Live Nativity

Christ Community Church, 1101 Calhoun Street, will host a live Nativity from 7 to 9 p.m.,

Wednesday, Dec. 17 through Saturday, Dec. 20.

OLG Altar Society

Our Lady of the Gulf Altar Society will meet at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18 at the home of Wanda Roberts. Officers will be elected followed by a Christmas dinner. All members are asked to attend and bring a covered dish to share. New members and guests are welcome.

Little League

Calhoun County Little League Association will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18 at First National Bank Community Room.

Christmas program

Christ Community Church will host a Christmas program, “The Vessels” at 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 21. Everyone is welcome to see ancient artifacts from Israel come alive.

Candlelight service

Six Mile Presbyterian Church Candlelight service has been changed from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21. A meal will follow the service. For more information, call 552-2002.

The Telestials

First United Methodist Church will host The Telestials, at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan 2. For more information, call 552-7434. Admission is free.

MLK Day

Donations and sponsorships for the third annual Martin Luther King Celebration to be held on Saturday, Jan. 17 are being sought. Those interested should contact CCIA, 905 South Virginia or call Emma at 552-3433.

Senior workforce

Go Texan Scholarship

The Houston Area Go-Texan Scholarship application is available at Calhoun High School and the Texas Cooperative Extension Office. Scholarship is open to spring 2009 graduating seniors. Application must be turned in by Tuesday, Jan. 13. For more information, contact the CHS counselor’s office or by calling 552-9747.

Diabetes classes

The Calhoun County Extension Office and Memorial Medical Center will begin type two diabetes self care classes on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Classes will meet from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ag Building. Fee is $20 and includes curriculum and refreshments. For more information or to register, call 552-9747.

Calhoun County Community Network has open computer labs available to the public free of charge. Labs are open from 4 to at least 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. Open lab locations are J/R Elementary, Point Comfort and Seadrift School. Internet access and printing of documents are available. For more information, please call 552-9728 or 553-4301.
