Happy new year
BY AMBER ROKYTA
As 2009 is literally a day away, I am anxious to see what a wonderful and prosperous year it will be. As 2008 quickly comes to a close, I reflect on the resolutions I made and how I accomplished nearly all of them. Those that I did not accomplish or achieve success will merely rollover to the 2009 list.
For me personally, 2008 was a great year. I graduated from college. For many that may not seem so great, but for me it was the most defining and amazing moments I have ever felt. It was not only graduation day itself, but also the day my diploma arrived in the mail. Seeing that piece of paper that cost so much money, and knowing that a resolution had been fulfilled, was like no other feeling.
I like to write out my resolutions and hang them up. I sometimes see them as a plan for the year. I almost always post them somewhere I look everyday. Resolutions should be something that can be accomplished, something with which you can succeed and work toward.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important that any other.” Pretty powerful words, I’d say.
Over the last seven months or so that I’ve spent here with the Wave, I’ve learned a lot about myself. That was one of my resolutions as well, discovering who I really am, who I want to be, and who I will become.
I thank Tania for giving me the opportunity to prove myself at this job. Finding a fabulous job post graduation was a goal. Accomplished.
I could go on and on about my lists and resolutions. Yet, what I really want to say to everyone out there is, “have blessed New Year. Do whatever it takes to live the happiest of happy lives, finding joy and excitement in the littlest to biggest ways.”
When making your list this year, make sure to add living your life to the fullest everyday and reminding those who mean the most to you how much you cherish them. You never know when you will breathe your last breath or if the last time you see that special someone will really be the last. When you say “I love you,” mean it. Take time to think out what it is you really mean to say, so that you do not have words spoken that will never be able to be taken back. When you are angry, walk away. Say only the things that need to be said. Lastly, be kind to everyone.
This new year could bring forth so much and in that it is my hope to my family, friends and the community to welcome it with open arms and happy hearts. This is the year that we can start over and erase pain and wish for greatness in our lives and to those around us.
