Human remains await identification

Some bones found by some duck hunters at Schicke Point Dec. 30 remain in a paper sack and box in Sheriff B. B. Browning’s office, he said Wednesday.

Browning said it is believed the bones are the remains of a Vietnamese shrimper from Rockport that fell off a boat near Tres Palacios.

The sheriff’s office has not yet sent the bones to a crime lab for DNA identification because CCSO feels strongly that the remains are those of the Vietnamese shrimper, Browning said.

CCSO is waiting for that man’s family to return from a Christmas visit in Vietnam with other family members.

“The thing is we don’t know when they will return,” Browning said. He added that if the family cannot identify the remains, they will be sent to the crime lay.

Some duck hunters putting out decoys at Schicke Point found the skull.

Browning and his deputies, along with some Matagorda County deputies, went to the scene and were able to retrieve most of the skeleton. A necklace, plus some teeth that are intact will help to identify the victim, according to the sheriff.
