Veterans Day parade will be held Saturday

Country Opry
The Heritage Center and Sterling Griffith will present the Country Opry at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3. Admission is $4. A turkey and dressing dinner will be served from 6-7 p.m. for a $6 donation. For more information, call 552-3350.

The Calhoun County Quilt Guild will meet at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Bauer Exhibit Building. The program will be “Embellishing With Beads” taught by Tanya Boenig. Visitors are welcome. For more information, call 552-9502.

The Calhoun County Library will host story time from 10:30-11:15 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4. Bring the kids for stories, crafts, songs and fun.

State Rep. Todd Hunter will open a Calhoun County district office on Thursday, Nov. 5. The office will be located in the Port Lavaca City Hall. A member of Rep. Hunter’s staff will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of each month to discuss issues with local citizens.
Neuter-a-thon
Adopt a pet of Victoria will host its fall neuterathon from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, for male cats only. The fee is $20 and includes a rabies vaccination. For more information, call 575-7387.

Victoria Preservation, Inc. will host its 6th annual cemetery tour, “Tales Told at Twilight,” at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6. and Saturday, Nov. 7 at Catholic cemeteries #1 and #2 located on West Sabine Street. For more information, call 573-1878.
‘The Trail of Tears’
The First United Methodist Church will host “The Trail of Tears,” the story of a 1,000 mile march of the Cherokee Indians from their traditional homelands to Oklahoma, with Kathy Lynn Copeland at 6:45 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, following a pot luck dinner at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Point Comfort United Methodist Church will host its 55th annual church bazaar from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5. Chicken and dumplings will be served for $5 a plate. The bazaar will continue from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, with soup and sandwiches for $4 and hot dogs or Frito pie for $1.50. There will also be party trays, baked goods and a garden center featuring day lilies. Everyone is welcome.
Veterans Parade
The American Legion, VFW, and American G.I. Forum will host the 4th annual Veterans Parade at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7. The parade will start at Sandcrab Stadium and finish at the end of Main Street near the Bay. Everyone is asked to come out and salute our Veterans.

The 38th annual Arts, Crafts, Antiques Festival by the Bay will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Bauer Community Center. There will also be a silent auction and special booths for children. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the famous cowboy stew, chicken and dumplings and dessert. The Calhoun County Quilt Guild will host its annual free quilt show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Bauer Community Center. Members will display a variety of quilts, wall hangings, wearable arts, and other fine stitchery. Raffle tickets will be available for “Texas Glory,” a full size quilt constructed by CCQG members and hand quilted by Phyliss McClendon. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Medical benefit
A benefit to help defray medical expenses for Irene Lindsey Iovanna will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Formosa Clubhouse across from gate #3. Plates of cheeseburgers, chips and dessert will be served for $6. A bake sale will also be held. All donations are greatly appreciated. For more information, call 920-2370 or 237-1284.
J-R fall festival
The J-R Elementary fall festival has been rescheduled. The festival will be held from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12. There will be lots of food, fun, games and turkey giveaways every 30 minutes. Everyone is welcome to attend.
