Travis Middle School and Calhoun High School concert bands recently received a Division I for its UIL stage and sight-reading performance, resulting in all TMS varsity and non-varsity bands and CHS varsity and non-varsity bands receiving a sweepstakes award.

“We are extremely proud of our students gaining these high awards from UIL,” said Calhoun High School Head Band Director Jaime Vela. “ Thanks go out to the parents of our students and the staff of our schools for their support during these times. Many bands in the state were not able to perform for UIL marching or concert this school year, due to Covid. I look forward on keeping these accolades going for our next school year.”

The CHS varsity band received the coveted large UIL trophy after receiving a Division I in marching band during the 2020-2021 year.

The TMS and CHS varsity bands are directed by Jaime Vela. The CHS non-varsity band is directed by Waylon Johnson and assisted by Garret Duke. The TMS non-varsity band is directed by Waylon Johnson.
