Calhoun County is renowned for its prime bird watching wetland locations. Many tourists come and go simply to enjoy and marvel at the diverse avian species that inhabit the area.

With temperatures well over 100 degrees recently, Calhoun County residents should be aware of the possibility of heatstroke.
With the economy on less-than-solid grounds, the real estate market has been on the decline throughout the country. Matagorda Bay pilot ship Capt. Bob Barrie was out doing his job on Friday, heading with his ship out into the gulf.
Several area residents were fed up, and they were ready to talk about it on Independence Day. Fireworks exploded in the sky Friday night over Point Comfort. In addition to the Point Comfort fireworks show, aerial displays lighted the skies Saturday night in Port O’Connor, Olivia/Port Alto and Indianola. Texas Sea Grant officially unveiled its low power radio station, K-YAK, at a ribbon cutting on Tuesday at Magnolia Beach.
The Calhoun County Independent School District Summer Feeding Program is off to a good start this summer. The program offers a well-balanced and nutritious meal for breakfast and lunch each weekday at several area school campus cafeterias.
On a blistering afternoon in Port Lavaca, the Atchison family of Gonzales sought relief from the blazing rays along side the soothing waves at Lighthouse Beach.
There are all sorts of ways to stay cool in the summer, such as swimming, riding in the car with the top down, frolicking in the sprinklers, but a favorite around the world is consuming ice cream.
A bomb threat made Tuesday for Calhoun County turned out to be a hoax.
In Calhoun County, the name Calvin Anderle goes hand in hand with the word barbeque.
James Yi is well on his way to reaching the highest of six ranks in the Boy Scouts by becoming an Eagle Scout, all at the ripe age of 15. Local lawmen made 20 arrests between Monday, June 29 and Thursday, July 2.
The non-renewal of the fire protection agreement between the City of Port Lavaca and Calhoun County Commissioners’ Court brings up some issues concerning equipment the county loaned or gave to the city to provide rural fire protection.
