Calhoun County ISD announced today that the Calhoun High School Sandcrabs will forfeit the varsity football game played on Friday, October 4 against the Alice Coyotes, after unintentionally playing an ineligible student athlete.

It is important to note that Calhoun coaching staff sought clarification from the Texas Association of Sports Officials to better understand policy that governs the student athlete’s status, after a situation occurred during a game on September 27.

It is unfortunate that there was a misunderstanding between the entities involved regarding the player’s status.

After discussing the situation with UIL, it was determined that the student athlete’s status should have been considered ineligible for half of the October 4 game, and as such, playing him violated the UIL guidelines.
