County volunteer fire departments get new trucks

County volunteer firefighters gathered with county officials and representatives to bless a fleet of pumper trucks as rain softly fell Monday afternoon. The money for the trucks came out of a 2017 tax abatement between the county and Formosa Plastics. The company offered $1.5 million to refurbish the trucks at a cost of $234,000 per truck. The first trucks arrived in June with the final three coming in July. “They are all in service,” said County Judge Richard Meyer. Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church Father Tommy Chen offered a prayer before blessing the fleet of fire trucks. Departments whose trucks were upgraded were Olivia-Port Alto VFD, Magnolia Beach VFD, Calhoun County VFD, Point Comfort VFD, Six Mile VFD and Port O’Connor VFD, which was not in attendance.
