The biggest, most anticipated event in Calhoun County took a hit over the weekend when it learned one of its main attractions won’t be there.
The city of Port Lavaca will host the 2019 Flip Flop Festival, scheduled for Labor Day weekend.
Port Lavaca Events Committee Chairman Tania French said they received word that Thomas ruptured a disc in his back, requiring emergency surgery.
“While we are disappointed that Starship featuring Mickey Thomas will be unable to perform this year, we certainly understand and wish him a speedy recovery,” French said.
As soon as the cancellation was confirmed, the committee quickly went to work to add to the concert line-up.
“Festival-goers can expect a great lineup with some amazing musical talent,” French said.
If anyone who has purchased tickets for Saturday, the night Starship was set to perform, wants a refund or wants to know what to do next, they can contact French at (361) 920-9788.
In addition to the big event, the committee is seeking volunteers.
“We need all the help we can get. Please go to flipflopfest.com and click on the volunteer tab to sign up,” French said.
