Teamwork and “the power of one” helped earn HJM Elementary all six distinctions by TEA for the third consecutive year.

Tiffany O’Donnell enters her fourth year as the principal of HJM, and she said it is a great feeling to have an incredible staff that ensures the success of every student at HJM.

According to a CCISD press release, HJM received all six distinctions for Science, Math, English Language Arts/Reading, Top 25 percent in comparative academic growth, post-secondary readiness, and top 25 percent for comparative closing the gaps.

Teamwork was the main factor for continuing the great success at HJM, and O’Donnell said it “definitely takes everyone.”

“From the cafeteria staff, custodial staff, para-professionals, counselors, and of course our amazing teachers working together for the success of our students,” O’Donnell said.

HJM is about building healthy relationships, O’Donnell said, and she added it begins with supporting, loving and encouraging every student at HJM and each other.

“Everything else, including student achievement, will fall into place,” O’Donnell said. “I know it sounds cliché, but you truly must capture a student’s heart before capturing their mind, and our staff does just that,” O’Donnell added.

O’Donnell added HJM is blessed to have supportive parents, community members and mentors that take part in these daily successes.

HJM emphasizes the term “the power of one”, and O’Donnell asked if God is about the one, shouldn’t HJM be as well?

“Our staff does not and will not give up on the one,” O’Donnell said, “And I am truly humbled to be able to work beside them each day.”

O’Donnell said all the credit goes to the teachers and students. She added it’s the “grace of God” that allows her to do what she does every day.

HJM will continue giving students “relevant and real-life experiences” to help them prepare for future success, O’Donnell said.
