POINT COMFORT – The Calhoun Port Authority Board approved a budget exceeding $18 million during a special called meeting Monday.

The port’s budget includes revenue of $18,60,695, a difference of $2,749,890 over last year’s budget. Expenses were budgeted at $15,537,745, leaving a net profit after depreciation and transfers of $2,381,477.

The port’s budget runs from July to the end of June.

Johnny Perez and Jay Cuellar worked on the budget for four hours, said board Chairman J.C. Melcher.

“I want to compliment them on the questions they asked and their knowledge of the facts,” he said.

The board also approved an increase in the storage fees for the AN/NH3 facility.

The per short ton storage fee for AN was increased to $4.25 from $3.68, and the NH3 was increased to $12.35 from $10.33.

In other business, the board:

-- Denied a request for an easement across port property following a request from Marie Bees.

-- Approved 2019 budget amendments.
