A Port Lavaca man was arrested 12 days after allegedly striking a Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy.
Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Louis Paul Purswell, 57, of Port Lavaca Feb. 20 on a warrant for failure to stop and render aid, Sgt. Ruben San Miguel with DPS said.
Purswell allegedly struck deputy Trenton Ballard, while the deputy was directing traffic following a wreck on Feb. 8, according to San Miguel.
The pickup failed to stop and fled after hitting the deputy.
Ballard was transported to Memorial Hermann in Houston via Helicopter and was released the next day. Ballard has returned to work and is designated to light duty.
Purswell posted a $75,000 bond out of Calhoun County jail in less than two hours after being booked.
The state jail felony carries a 180 days to 2 years in jail sentence and up to a $10,000 fine.
