Charles Laverne Phillips Jackson, 90, of Port Lavaca, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, at DeTar Hospital while surrounded by her family. Charlie was the first of 12 children born to Benjamin Erma and Mary King Phillips in Port Lavaca.
She leaves behind six children to cherish her memory: Maurice (Erica) Leonard, Ethel Marie Bensacia, Delores Fay Phillips, Louise Phillips West, Elwood Jackson Jr. and Laverne (Rene) Huerta; sisters: Lita Lois King, Marva Duckett, Sirlena Phillips, Jamie Phillips, Ruth (Johnnie) Scott and Vivian Leigh Clay; brothers, Benjamin E. Phillips Jr. and William Gerald Phillips; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandson and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Charlie was receded in death by her parents; brothers, David C. Phillips and Wayne King Phillips; and sister, Amelia M Williams.
A viewing will be held at 6 p.m. followed by funeral services at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, located at 314 W. Center St. in Port Lavaca.
