James Sterling Leadbetter

James Sterling Leadbetter, of Houston, passed away April 28, 2022. He was born Aug. 20, 1955 to James Allen and Lola Mae Leadbetter.

Sterling was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his Houston Astros. He worked many years in the offshore oilfield, working his way up from a roustabout all the way to barge captain. He was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. He thoroughly enjoyed taking trips and vacations with his daughters and spending time with family.

Left to cherish James’ memory are his mother; daughters, Courtney Eve Leadbetter, of Houston, and Caitlyn Ann Leadbetter, of Houston; brothers, Roy Allen Leadbetter, of Georgetown, Andy Ray Leadbetter, of Wautaga, and Robert Gene Leadbetter and wife, Vickie, of Vanderbilt. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A funeral service was scheduled at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Brother Crank officiating. Visitation began at 1 p.m. He was laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery in Jacksonville.
