The Calhoun Sandies are back in the playoffs for the third consecutive year in a row.



The Sandies trailed on the road against the Eagles, 0-2, heading into the sixth inning, but stole the lead with four runs in the top of the sixth.

Calhoun’s offense out hit Veterans Memorial with a total of 13 hits, and scored five runs against the opposing pitcher.

Zoe Flores, the Sandies senior pitcher, earned the win pitching a complete game. She allowed eight hits, three runs, while striking out six batters.

The Sandies swept the Eagles in the season series, and improved to 11-4 in district with a 22-9-1 overall record.

Finals stats against Veterans:

Four Sandies’ batters each had two hits, while five Sandies each had one RBI.



The Sandies clinched second place in district in their, 2-0, shutout victory over Corpus Christi Moody in their final home game of the season.

Calhoun’s pitching and defense shutout Millers’ offense; only allowing three hits and zero runs.

Flores went five innings allowed two hits and struck out 10 batters.

The game went scoreless until the bottom of the third inning until a two-run homerun by Claire Blinka, gave the Sandies the lead.

Catherine Hernandez, the Sandies junior relief pitcher, filled in for Flores in the final two innings. She allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out one batter.

The Sandies finished the regular season with 12-4 district record with 23-9-1 regular season record, and clinched their third playoff appearance in a row.



The Sandies will take on Tuloso Midway in a three game Bi-District round at Floresville High School this Thursday.

The Warriors finished their 2019 campaign with an 18-13 record, and finished third in their district with an 8-4 record.
