Emma Garza Cumpian, 87, of Port Lavaca passed away May 20, 2024. She was born June 11, 1936 in Bay City, TX to Marcelino and Guadalupe Islas Garza. Emma was a Catholic, she enjoyed working in her yard and watering her plants, cooking and making her famous homemade tortillas with butter, taking care of her dog Jasmine and spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Ruby Ruiz of Victoria, Sylvia Yanes of Palacios, Minnie Ruiz (Leo) of Port Lavaca, Lisa “YaYa” Cumpian of Port Lavaca, Oscar Cumpian of Port Lavaca, Emma Cisneros (Ernest) of Victoria, Frances Daniel (Mike) of Port Lavaca, and Melissa Hopper (Keith) of Austwell; brother, Frank Garza of Corpus Christi; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Cumpian Sr.; son, Eddie Cumpian Jr.; parents; and sister-in-law, Mary Rose Garza.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 9-10 a.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. with Father Tommy Chen officiating. Burial will follow in Port Lavaca Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Renee “Sunshine” Morales, Leo Ruiz Jr., Eddie Cumpian III, Chase Chapa, Oscar Cumpian Jr. and Ricky Ruiz Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are C.K. Hopper IV, Brian Hopper, Gilbert Yanes III, 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas or the Calhoun County Humane Society.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Timu for being an excellent doctor and friend and much appreciation to Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehabilitation and Hospice of South Texas.
