A crash killed one woman and injured several others at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday near State Highway 35 and FM 1593 in Calhoun County, according to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
First responders arrived at the scene of a three-vehicle crash involving a grey 2004 Dodge Dakota truck, a 2016 red Ford Fusion and a 2023 Dodge Ram 1500 at an unidentified time following the collision. The right-side passenger of the Dakota, Adriana Carranza Coronado, 45, of Palacios, was declared dead at the scene by Calhoun County Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Judge Nancy Pomykal at 2:10 p.m.
The driver of the Dakota, Ricardo Garcia, 51, of Palacios and a passenger, a 14-year-old minor, sustained serious injuries but were in stable condition when transported to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria. None of the passengers in the Dakota were wearing seatbelts, according to Texas State Trooper Ruben San Miguel.
“The Dakota was traveling northbound on State Highway 35 at an unsafe speed under unsafe weather conditions, causing the vehicle to hydroplane, crossing the center line and striking the Ford Fusion,” San Miguel said. “After striking the Ford Fusion, the Dodge Ram that was driving southbound struck the rear of the red Fusion after its collision with the Dakota. It was almost simultaneous when the Dodge hit the Ford Fusion from behind.”
The driver of the Ford Fusion, Lora Ann Mikosh, 54, of Katy, also sustained serious injuries and was transported to Citizens Medical Center, while her husband and right-side passenger, Antonio Luis Arroyo-Vega, 53, was uninjured. The driver of the Dodge Ram, Celso Angel Martinez, 51, of Florida, was also uninjured.
The collision is still under ongoing investigation.
