Elisa Alvarez Gonzales, age 98 passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024. Elisa was born September 15, 1925 in Gonzales, Texas to the late Francisco and Jova Rendon Garza. She graduated from Calhoun High School in 1944. She was a great homemaker and devout Catholic. She loved to cook and enjoyed feeding anyone that came through the door. She was a great hostess and was always in the kitchen with her apron. Elisa enjoyed when the family and friends were present for any meal. She loved to play games, such as chicken foot, UNO, Skip Bo, and Dominos. She was lovingly known as Grandma. She was blessed with patience, a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh. She liked to share stories about growing up on the farm. And she loved seafood of any kind. Mom saved photos, birthday cards, graduation cards, holiday cards, report cards and most anything regarding her family. She will be greatly missed.

Elisa was wed to Manuel Filipe Gonzales on August 8, 1948 in Port Lavaca. She was a loving wife and mother to her five sons: Jessie (Rose), Manuel, III (Josie), Juan Francisco, Jimmy (Lucy), and Jerome (Cindy). Elisa also had 8 grandchildren: Manuel IV, Benjamin, Sonia, Juan Francisco Jr, Jennifer, Jimmy Jr, Gabrielle, and Olivia, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julio and Josefa Rendon Alvarez and Francisco and Jova Rendon Garza, siblings Gustavo Garza, Juanita Vann Sastre-Mayo, Frank Alvarez, Isadora Garza Jimenez, Epifano “EP” Sosa, Damaso E “DE” Sosa, Alfonso Frank Sosa, and Josephine Sosa Ramirez. Elisa was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Manuel Gonzales, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 5-7PM with rosary being recited at 7PM at Richardson Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church with burial to follow at Port Lavaca Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Manuel Gonzales IV, Ben Gonzales, Jimmy Gonzales Jr., Manuel Gonzales V, David Gonzales, Bobby Faltesek.

The family of Elisa Gonzales would like to thank Hospice of South Texas for their kind and compassionate service rendered to our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Elisa’s memory may be made to Hospice of South Texas, 1005 Mallette Dr. Victoria, Texas or Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church Port Lavaca.
