Thomas W. Cornett Thomas W. Cornett

Thomas W. Cornett, 85, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 8, 2024. He was surrounded by family in his final moments.

Tom was born on March 21, 1939 in El Campo, Tx. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Cornett and Ruby Pearl Praytor; his brother, William D. Cornett Jr.; sister, Nan Cornett Perryman; and son, Thomas Scott Cornett.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Janie Cornett; daughters, Ruth Creigh (Gary) Lidiak of Katy, Kathrene (Steven) Carr of Victoria; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous extended family members.

Tom graduated from Texas A&l in Kingsville, Tx with a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture. He then began his career as an agricultural consultant for farmers, ranchers, and golf course superintendents for most of his life. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Port Lavaca for over 50 years. An avid history buff, he was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution; Sons of the Confederacy, and the War of 1812. Tom was a licensed pilot and loved to fly to various destinations for pleasure and to find the best fishing holes. He was a certified scuba diver and loved to sail. He and his wife, Janie, enjoyed snow skiing in Colorado. Tom was larger than life and truly a man’s man. His witty personality and remarkable gift for connecting with people of all ages, ensured he never met a stranger, as he could strike up a conversation with anyone he encountered.

He was known for his jokes and no one was immune to his shenanigans, including his loving wife and the grandkids! His quick wit and talent for making people laugh will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.

The family would like to thank Crystal from Molly’s Helping Hands; Tanya from Angels Home Health;

Aleesa and aides from Crown Hospice; and Clarissa and Brice from Cornerstone Caregivers.

Tribute donations may be made online to the Alzheimers Association@alz.org.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6, at 2:00pm at Grace Funeral Home, 2401 Houston Hwy. Thoughts and memories may be shared online at www.gracefuneralhome.net
